Team Osprey 2008 cycling idiosyncracies begins June 7 in Oceanside, CA!

Competitors in Race Across America (RAAM) will start out from Oceanside, CA on Saturday, June 7, 2008, travel roughly 3,000 miles, climb over 100,000 feet and will arrive the week of June 18 in downtown historic Annapolis, MD - a way better choice than last year's finish in Atlantic City, NJ, a veritable den of iniquity. Here is a race organization that will not promote or tolerate drugs, booze or bad living. Go figure...

This year, same as last year and the year before, more than 200 riders from many countries will face all kinds of conditions in a coast-to-coast route that will cross 17 different state lines, (including Oklahoma and New Mexico). Then the 'vacation' is over and we all gratefully go back to work...

Ah, but we have the memories...

First Posting from The Children's Table.
Prayer for the brave rider:
May the breeze on your face be gentle,
May the strong winds be tail winds,
May the morning sun awaken you, and it's brother - the hot afternoon one - hide in the clouds til dawn,
May the rains be yesterday's news,
And may the rubber side stay down!
Good fortune,
God Speed.

Helloooooo Team Osprey!

Been following your progress all weekend online. For whatever reason, I can't see the word verification text on my PC at home, so this is the first chance I've had to comment.

Janet, you're making great progress! There is an entry on the main RAAM blog about you making a "fashion statement" with your inside-out shorts. I commented that you were known for making fashion statements on the bike and just wait until 'Alien Janet' makes her first appearance! BWA-HAHAHAHA!! ;)

Anyway, great start everyone! Janet, be safe and be extraordinary!

Janet - I read about you in last week's San Diego UT. I have been tracking your race and man are you strong! After you finish, I hope you give some local talks because I am intrigued by the madness of RAAM and want to know how you do it. I have definitely been inspired and my husband and I are making plans to do the race across the west next year as a 2 person team. Way to go! You have it in you and just keep believing in your strength.

So glad to see that the "Dorothy Shoes" have re-appeared! I mean, how else are you supposed to travel through the midwest? ;)

Yesterday I ran the Camp Pendleton Mud Run (Ooo-rah!) and was telling my teammates all about your RAAM odyssey. Of course Mary (Monte's wife) already knew about it, but I clued in the other girls about your awesome journey. You now have three more San Diegan's cheering you on!

Keep on doing what you're doing and keep it safe! Osprey Crew - you all are doing a great job!

Hey girl,

Just checking in this evening to see how you're doing; I see that you are currently blowing through Indiana and nearly in Ohio! Awesome!

This morning I woke up feeling a bit stiff and sore from my weekend adventure. Then I thought about you and your unyielding determination to just keep carrying on, apparently transcending levels of discomfort that I can only imagine, all to keep those 'ruby red slippers' going 'round in little circles ;)

You are Hard Corps, Janet! Absolutely Bad-Ass!!

Keep making those little circles with your feet and you will reach your goal soon enough.

Go Team Osprey!

Rubber side down - God speed.

WAY TO GO TEAM OSPREY!!!!!!!

I finally got out of meetings today to check how Janet is doing and I yelled out with joy!!!

I'm so ecstatic how all of you are doing. I really wish I was right there with you all.

Please give Janet a BIG BEAR HUG for me and keep on doing the superb job you are accomplishing.

When I get home, I think I'll put on my RAAM T-Shirt, Cap, get my RAAM cup and maybe put my RAAM bag in the living room.....HAA!!!!!!!

Keep having great success, keep those grins a grinning and be happy with all you've accomplished.

Cheers,

O-hi-o!! Whoo-hoo, the Osprey is flying now!!

BTW, I'll mention this now in the hope that your crew relays it to you beforehand: as you approach TS #51, located in Hanover, PA, you should know that the town is known as the "snack food capital" of the world. The most famous snack produced there? Pretzels. That's right, pretzels. You know where I'm going with this... if AJ hasn't made her appearance yet, this might be a heck'uva place to do so ;)

Be safe, be strong!

Hi Janet, this in from Whitney: There seems to be no way to send a message to Janet from my computer. I can't get to a blog page that allows me to leave a message. So if you can, do tell her that I am thinking of her, following her progress, have a map of her course up on the bulletin board in my office at work, and brag a lot to my co-workers!

Way to go Janet and Crew....Team Osprey.

Great to see the miles clicking off on the website.

Can you ask Janet how many miles she'll have totally ridden on the Yellow Lipton Tea Fuji bike of hers since she has gotten it?

She's gotten a good mile to cent ratio on that bike.

Keep going guys.....you are being watched via Gore Cyber World.

Cheers to you all,
Mack
